A meeting to bring together scientists from the Fusion, Atmospheric and Astrophysical research communities to discuss turbulence. These communities face similar problems in understanding and calculating the turbulent dynamics.
Understanding
the turbulence is essential for progress in these fields. For example,
to obtain efficient fusion devices the turbulent transport of heat in
the burning plasma must be controlled. In solar physics the dynamics of
turbulence in the stable "tacocline" region of the sun is critical
to understanding the generation of solar magnetic fields.
Speakers will be asked to prepare talks that explain to turbulence researchers outside their field the key scientific issues and the progress so far. The meeting will focus on some common themes that are at the forefront of research in these fields.
The meeting will be held at The Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton House Terrace London, SW1Y 5AG.
