Welcome to the Opportunities in Fusion web pages. Here you
will find information about the types of work carried out at Culham,
together with links to contact us about the work and opportunities
in various areas.
UKAEA is a major employer of scientists and engineers at Culham,
with around 800 made up of permanent staff, secondees, research
associates, undergraduate/ postgraduate students and contractors.
It hosts the major European experiment, JET, operating it on behalf
of the European Community. It executes experimental programmes and
undertakes extensive theoretical and modelling work, exploring and
developing the physics of magnetic confinement plasma.
The experiments are large devices using hundred-megawatt levels
of electricity power, with sophisticated measurement and control
systems, power engineering, remote handling facilities, and vacuum
and cryogenic technology. They require careful design and considerable
technical, electrical, and engineering effort to maintain and develop
them.
Opportunities arise on a regular basis. At present we are particularly
interested in recruiting PhD students and postdoctoral temporary
research associates with university links. Click on the links below
