Environmental policy

CCFE operates within the overall environmental policy of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. In carrying out our work we aim to meet high environmental standards. In all activities we aim to:

  1. Comply with relevant environmental legal requirements and other requirements to which CCFE subscribes.
  2. Prevent pollution.
  3. Assess all our operations and activities to minimise impact on the environment.
  4. Operate an environmental management system that meets the requirements of the International Standard ISO 14001.
  5. Increase environmental awareness on the Culham Science Centre site.
  6. Continually improve and review our environmental performance and set environmental improvement objectives and targets.
  7. Reduce the production of waste and ensure safe and environmentally sound storage and disposal.
  8. Strive to use energy and water and other natural resources efficiently and encourage the re-use and recycling of materials.
  9. Take account of the environmental impact of the products and services when making procurement decisions.
  10. Require contractors to comply with key aspects of the environmental management system, where their actions can significantly affect CCFE's environmental performance.
  11. Adopt land management practices which care for the environment.
